[personal profile] archangelbeth posting in [community profile] style_system
What I'd really like to do is have my journal in Drifting Blue, and read my subscriptions list in some other style, but since I can't do that... I want the icons on the left on my reading page, so I can see who made a post easily -- being a left-to-right reader. (If it were just for my own page, I'd leave the icons on the right and not care.)

When I moved icons to the left instead of the right, in Drifting Blue ( http://archangelbeth.dreamwidth.org/?s2id=9288 ), the date started overlapping the top of the icon-box (not the icon itself, but the little box around them). It's not unreadable, but it's messy-looking. I know zip-all CSS. Can someone walk me through either removing the box around icons in my Drifting Blue, or putting in enough space that the date doesn't overlap that box?

(This happens in all left-placed-icons in the Drifting set. Some (Desert Me) are less obvious than others (Soft Blues, Chocolate Cherry) from the coloration, but that style just doesn't handle left-icons gracefully... Should I be reporting this as a bug or something?)

Much thanks in advance!

You can make custom CSS apply to just a particular page - just stick .page-read as a top-level class on anything you want to apply to just the reading page - let me know if you need more help with this.

To take the border off just entry and recent pages, use .page-entry .entry-wrapper .userpic a, .page-entry .comment-wrapper .userpic a, .page-recent .entry-wrapper .userpic a, .page-recent .comment-wrapper .userpic a {border: none;}

The left-placed icons not working properly should be a bug, though, so I'd suggest you report it to Support as well.

Okay, I'll try again :)

Go to http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/options and click on "Custom CSS". There should be a big box labelled "Use embedded CSS". Into that box, paste this, below anything that's already in there:
.page-entry .entry-wrapper .userpic a,
.page-entry .comment-wrapper .userpic a,
.page-recent .entry-wrapper .userpic a,
.page-recent .comment-wrapper .userpic a {border: none;}

Click "Save Changes" at the bottom, and take another look at your journal - that should have removed the boxes around the icons.

If you let me know what style you want for your subscriptions list, I'll try and do detailed instructions for that.

What Cesy said. If you want a different theme within the same style for your reading page, that's fairly easy, put the theme you want as your main theme, and copy the resolved CSS for the other theme into the Custom CSS box, with .page-read in front of all the amendments it makes. If you know what you're doing, you can likely strip out a lot of the CSS, as it'll be duplicate.
